FIRST COIN IN THE SERIE

Swarovski Crystals as the Eyes.

The “Wildlife Family” is an awesome series of collector silver coins highlighting some of the most vulnerable for extinction representatives of the world’s fauna needing strict protection in order to survive. Decorated with four genuine Swarovski crystals, the ultra-high relief surface of this antique finish coin is stunningly detailed and perfectly renders the animals’ appearance and emotions.

With the animal skin motif at the background, obverseof the coin features Raphael Maklouf’s effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. The inscriptions surrounding the portrait include the Queen’s name, the face value of the coin, its issuing country and the year of issue.

Tiger (Pantera tigris) represents the largest cat species and is the third largest carnivore on the Earth. Tigers are is also the fastest disappearing species on our planet: at the start of the 20th century, it was estimated that there were over 100,000 tigers in the wild, while today the total of all estimated wild population is less than 3,500 animals.

All six currently remaining subspecies of tigers have been classified as endangered by IUCN and include Bengal tiger, Indo-Chinese tiger, Siberian tiger, Malayan tiger, South China tiger and Sumatran tiger.

Tiger’s total body weight can reach up to 3.3 m (11 feet) and the animal can weigh up to 388 kg (857 lb). Tigers have muscular bodies with powerful forelimbs, large heads and long tails, but their most recognizable feature is a pattern of dark vertical stripes on reddish-orange fur with a lighter underside.

They are very territorial and generally solitary but yet social animals, often requiring large contiguous areas of habitat (up to 100 km2) to support their prey requirements.

Once ranged widely across Asian continent, from Turkey to the eastern coast of Russia, over the past 100 years, they have lost 93% of their historic habitat, and have been extirpated from southwest and central Asia, as well as from the islands of Java and Bali, and from large areas of Southeast and Eastern Asia.

Today, they still range from the Siberian taiga to open grasslands and tropical mangrove swamps of India.
