Its name comes from the Adriatic coast region of Dalmatia (Croatia) and the International Kennel Federation identified the Dalmatian as an autochthonous Croatian breed in 1994, citing several historical sources.
The author of the conceptual and artistic design of the coin is the known sculptor Nikola Vudrag.
In his design, he has combined the most characteristics of the Dalmatian dog breed with fragments of a geographical map of Croatia, thus creating unusual spots in the form of various Croatian islands.
