The obverse represents the composition which consists of the Bank of Mongolia emblem and the following inscriptions: the face value of the coin, its weight and metal fineness.
A pretty neat design of the reverse features a detailed image of a monkey and the Chinese symbol standing for this animal.
The coin is struck as a ‘black proof’, and it also uses new striking technique called HiCarv which appears to concentrate a section of ultra-high relief on a single part of the coin and with a different look, almost like it was rough-hewn from granite. The Chinese believe that people born in the year of the monkey are astute, intelligent and flexible which enables them to solve problems with ease.
